Steam Bath HistoryFor thousands of years, cultures around the world have indulged in the soothing heat of the steam bath. The steam bath was poplar with the ancient Greeks and Romans, but do not forget that the Mayans, Alaskan Eskimos, Russians, Turks and Chinese of ancient times all enjoyed the benefits of steam. These cultures used steam to rejuvenate tired muscles, provide a sense of spiritual identity and provide a place for socializing.

For American culture, the steam bath was something only found in commercial applications such as private clubs or gyms. As steam became more popular after World War II the need for residential steam units arose. During the 1950s and 60s most steam sales were still for commercial jobs. It was not until the late 1970’s when companies such as Amerec and Steamist began to show huge sales increases in residential units. Through their innovative designs and the strength of their dealers like Apex, their residential steam market has become larger then their commercial market.

Steam plays a very important role in our health and relaxation. Residential steam baths have become a very affordable private retreat that anyone with a shower can enjoy.
